Fisk University recently signed an unprecedented nine partnership agreements with leading Chinese universities, which are expected to pave the way for significant academic and cultural exchanges in the years ahead for the University.
Seven agreements are with universities in the Jilin and Shanxi provinces including Jilin University of Foreign Languages, Northeast Normal University, and Taiyuan Normal University. Two partnership agreements were signed in Beijing with the Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology and the Beijing University of Chemical Technology. The partnerships focus on developing strong dual degree and short-term programs that enable Fisk students and those from the partnering Chinese institutions to study abroad and receive their respective degrees. The partnership agreements span a broad range of disciplines in the natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, and fine arts.
The agreements were signed during Fisk Provost Rodney Hanley’s visit to China and are part of the University’s international initiative to bolster Fisk’s traditionally strong global ties. Hanley was accompanied by Li Weaver, the State of Tennessee export and investment specialist for China, and Jens Frederiksen, Fisk Assistant Professor. “We understand the importance of a global education and the University remains deeply committed to its tradition of fostering strong global leaders”, Provost Hanley said.
President H. James Williams remarked, “Nashville, and Tennessee more broadly, are rapidly becoming a major global hub and Fisk University is excited about contributing to these major developments. Nashville’s business community is tremendously vibrant and Fisk University has an important role to play.”
