Speaker Rubio doesn't get it.
His ideas on health care could jeopardize Medicare and veterans' care, programs which cover more than 5 million Floridians. Marco Rubio thinks that government shouldn't be in the health care business at all. That means these programs could be shut down.
Moreover, his obstruction of the current health care bill means we could lose our best chance ever to prevent insurance companies from denying coverage due to pre-existing conditions and to close the Medicare prescription drug coverage "donut hole."
That's what he stands for. If he were in the Senate, he would lead the charge to scrap real health care reform.1 If elected, he's sworn to do everything he can to repeal it.2
Governor Crist isn't any better. He's against the current plan in Congress. And his "Cover Florida" alternative - the statewide initiative that claims to offer low-cost insurance - signed up fewer Floridians in its first five months than the number of people who lose their insurance every week in our state.3 That's not nearly good enough.
As for me, I'm proud to stand on the right side of history. When the House votes on the health care bill this weekend, I intend to vote yes, just like I did November.
Even though the bill isn't perfect, I'm voting yes to more affordable care for Florida families.
I'm sure Rubio and his cronies will sputter their failed ideology and outright lies to smear those of us trying to fix a broken system.
He doesn't want you to know what's actually in the bill, because it's a great first step. I intend to vote yes this weekend, and I'll keep working to cut health care costs for every Floridian.
That's what this Senate election is all about. That's why I know I can count on your continued support. Thank you so much.
