Miami Gardens, FL -- Kendrick Meek released the following statement regarding the arrest of the individual who allegedly attempted to set off a car bomb in Times Square on Saturday. The statement follows:
"The arrest of the individual in New York who allegedly attempted to set off a car bomb in Times Square reminds us that extremists wishing to do us harm remain an ever-present danger. Vigilant bystanders who alerted police of the suspicious vehicle and quick thinking law enforcement members who secured Times Square and apprehended the suspect within 48 hours of the attempted attack deserve our praise. Throughout my career, as a former Trooper in the Florida Highway Patrol and a founding member of the Select Committee on Homeland Security and the Homeland Security Committee, I have focused my attention on securing our nation from extremists wishing to disrupt our freedoms and injure innocent civilians. Last year's attempted Christmas Day bombing of an airliner and this failed attack reinforce that our focus on national and homeland security can never waver, and that the threats against Americans remain real," said Kendrick Meek, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate.
