On behalf of my family, I wanted to extend a Happy Mother's Day greeting to your family. We all celebrate our grandmothers and mothers, aunts and sisters every day of the year, but Mother's Day is special for so many reasons. Throughout my life, strong matriarchal figures were sources of personal inspiration. My mother Carrie Meek, two sisters, and a community steeped in family values raised me. In college at Florida A&M University, Dr. Sharon Wooten played a pivotal role in my education and academic growth. Witnessing my mother's career in public office, I know firsthand how many female leaders and pioneers in our state made meaningful and positive changes for the common good. Today is a time for family bonding, for flowers and gifts, and for an extra meaningful but ever so simple thank you. It's also a time to reflect and appreciate the matriarchs who played such a pivot role in shaping the people we are today.
