Miami Gardens, Fla. - The Kendrick Meek campaign released a web video today showing Governor Charlie Crist applauding the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy only to flip his position just three days later, saying that he was "inclined to support" its repeal. You can watch the video here.
"In just three days, Governor Crist went from applauding the discriminatory 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy to saying he was "inclined to support" its repeal. What changed from Monday to Thursday? And what exactly does 'inclined to support' mean? You either vote for it, against it or 'present.' Unfortunately for the governor, you can't vote 'inclined.' Kendrick Meek voted for the repeal last night. He was even a co-sponsor of the measure-and has been for years. On drilling off Florida beaches, Senate Bill 6, and now 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' the governor has proven he is willing to change on any position to advance his political career. Floridians shouldn't have to second-guess where elected officials stand on an issue. That's not leadership-just Charlie Crist politics," said Adam Sharon, Kendrick Meek for Florida communications director.

While Governor Crist was a longtime supporter of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," Kendrick Meek fought for its repeal. Since 2006, he has been a co-sponsor of measures repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and on Tuesday he sent out a petition to his supporters urging Congress to take immediate action to repeal the discriminatory policy.
