Today, The Black Scholars Index celebrates Nannie Helen Burroughs, an African American educator, orator, religious leader, and businesswoman. She gained national recognition for her 1900 speech "How the Sisters Are Hindered from Helping" and her booklet entitled "The 12 Things The Negro Must Do For Himself."
