MIAMI GARDENS, FLA -- Kendrick Meek responded to BP CEO's Tony Hayward handing over oversight of the Gulf oil spill crisis:
"We are now 59 days removed from the worst environmental disaster in American history, and it is clear that BP is still failing Floridians and the American people. BP CEO Hayward had his chance but has demonstrated that he is unfit to oversee the containment and cleanup effort. It is past time to turn over a new leaf. Handing over oversight of the spill is a step in the right direction, but Gulf citizens and businesses will only be whole again when they regain their livelihoods and BP pays back every dime they owe for the damage they've caused."
