Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates Endorses Rep. Kendrick Meek (389 hits)

The Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates, the political and advocacy arm of Planned Parenthood in Florida, today announced its endorsement of Rep. Kendrick Meek for the U.S. Senate.

“The Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates is proud to endorse Rep. Kendrick Meek for the U.S. Senate,” said Stephanie Kunkel, executive director of the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates. “Rep. Meek is a passionate advocate for women’s rights, and has a long and consistent record of standing up for women's health care. As a U.S. senator, he will continue to fight to improve access to quality health care for women, and protect a woman’s right to choose.”

Rep. Meek has received a 100 percent rating from the national Planned Parenthood Action Fund. As U.S. Representative for Florida’s 17th Congressional District since 2003, Meek has advocated for women’s reproductive rights, women’s health care services, and gender equality. Meek was a co-sponsor of the Prevention First Act, which aimed to decrease unintended pregnancies and health risks by expanding access to preventive health care and education services. He has also co-sponsored legislation supporting comprehensive services for rape victims at all hospitals receiving government funding and expanding health care services for female veterans.

Meek is already a strong voice in Congress advocating for women’s right and women’s health. In the U.S. Senate, he will continue to work to improve access to quality health care for women, end discrimination and violence against women, support and protect a woman's right to choose, strengthen comprehensive s*x education to keep our young people healthy and safe, and invest in prevention programs, including family planning services and breast cancer screenings.

“The voters in Florida want to elect a champion of women’s health,” said Kunkel. “Kendrick Meek is that candidate. Meek is the only candidate in the race with a long-standing history of expanding access to women’s health care and opposing attempts to pass anti-choice bills on both a state and federal level. He has shown himself time and time again to be a strong advocate for women in Florida and across the nation and we are proud to endorse him in the race for US Senate.”
