MIAMI GARDENS, FLA. -- The National Organization for Women (NOW) today announced their endorsement of Kendrick Meek for U.S. Senate. On a conference call with NOW President Terry O'Neill, Kendrick expressed his admiration for the organization and discussed his fight for issues important to women.
"I am humbled to receive the endorsement of the National Organization for Women. The fight for equality and women's rights have been causes central to my life. That's why I've always fought to protect a woman's right to choose and promote equal pay for equal work.
"Throughout my life, I have sought to promote gender equality as well as support the women near and dear to me, especially my wife, Leslie; my mother, Carrie Meek; and my teenage daughter, Lauren. I have tried my best to encourage them in their life goals and be a loving and supportive husband, son, and father."
"I look forward to continue working with NOW as Florida's next U.S. Senator."
"Kendrick has been a friend to the women's rights movement throughout his entire time of service," said Terry O'Neill, NOW President. "From day one, he has been a champion for women and has fought to preserve access to critical health services, combat violence against women, and promote maternity care. Most importantly, he has an unshakable commitment to equality. I know Kendrick will continue working hard to promote issues important to women and look forward to continue working with him as Florida's next U.S. Senator."
Kendrick has always been a fierce defender of a woman's right to choose and has a 100% Planned Parenthood rating. He also recently championed the nominations of Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan to the Supreme Court.
The National Organization for Women (NOW) is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States. NOW has 500,000 contributing members and 550 chapters in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Since its founding in 1966, NOW's goal has been to take action to bring about equality for all women.
