Bowie State University (BSU) has named Amanda R. Warfield as the institution’s new assistant director of public relations. Warfield, formerly a public relations specialist for Harford County Public Schools in Bel Air, Md., took over the position on September 22.
In addition to her role in developing public relations strategies for Bowie State University, Warfield will develop community relations initiatives and manage the institution’s social media outlets such as Facebook and Twitter. Warfield will work with Bowie State spokesperson Tammi L. Thomas on crisis and issues communications.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to join Bowie State University," said Warfield. "As the University continues to grow, I am looking forward to working with various stakeholders to enhance public relations efforts with the goal of increasing enrollment and expanding relationships with the Bowie community."
Warfield will also be responsible for various aspects of internal communication, media relations, marketing and advertising for the University. Enrolling more than 5,600 students, BSU provides high-quality and affordable educational opportunities, including 20 undergraduate majors, 20 master’s programs, and two doctoral programs, as well as numerous graduate and advanced study certificates.
"Amanda has a strong commitment to education, and brings with her a rich experience in the fields of public relations and marketing," said Thomas, director of University Relations and Marketing. "She will be a tremendous asset to the University, and we are thrilled to have her join our team."
On top of her three and a half years experience in Harford County, Warfield has earned both her bachelor’s degree, double-majoring in mass communications with a concentration in public relations and French, and master’s degree in communication management from Towson University. She also plans to pursue her accreditation in public relations next year. Originally from Cecil County, Md., Warfield currently resides in Baltimore County with her husband, Tim.
Warfield replaces former associate director, Rochelle Daniel, who transitioned into a full-time professor position in BSU’s Department of Communications in March of this year.
