
A star studded crowd that included current and former members of the TSU Debate Team, Honors College students, retired TSU faculty, alumni, current faculty and staff and a host of dignitaries and friends came out to Texas Southern University’s H&PE Arena September 13 to pay tribute to the legendary Dr. Thomas F. Freeman during this year’s Founders Day observance.
Professor and founder/coach of TSU’s highly acclaimed Debate Team, Dr. Thomas F. Freeman served as the keynote speaker for the annual Founders Day program. Recognized as an ‘Institution within the Institution’, Founders Day 2013 served to commemorate and celebrate Freeman’s illustrious career at Texas Southern University. After 69 years of teaching psychology and philosophy, motivating and mentoring hundreds of impressionable and eager students, Freeman will retired on August 31. He will remain on campus as a Distinguished Professor Emeritus. The university has created a Thomas F. Freeman Scholarships to be awarded annually to a member of the Debate Team.
Among his many accolades and accomplishments and included in his legacy, Freeman is the founding dean of the Thomas F. Freeman Honors College as well as the Distinguished Director of Forensics, having directed the TSU Debate team for 69 years.
This year’s theme was ‘Honoring the Legendary Dr. Thomas Franklin Freeman for Six Decades of Excellence in Achievement’.
