Allen University has been awarded funding from the R.E.A.C.H.E.S organization to receive equipment for the Yellow Jacket wrestling program. Allen University started its first club wrestling program in the spring of 2014 with 30 student athletes and has since grown to over 40 plus wrestlers. With the growing of the program at such a fast pace, Allen decided to move there program from club status to a full time varsity sport. In the fall of 2016 Allen University will be one of few HBCU’s that offers wrestling on a varsity level. Allen University started its program with the vision of increasing sports on campus, increasing student enrollment and increasing diversity campus wide. With programs like R.E.A.C.H.E.S helping to support financial needs, moving from club status to varsity has been an easier transition. The Allen University Wrestling family would like to thank R.E.A.C.H.E.S and Walter Fisk for the opportunity to receive this grant. We would also like to thank everyone at R.E.A.C.H.E.S for all that you have done for the sport of Wrestling.
