Today, the Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Caucus hosted its first meeting of the 115th Congress. Caucus co-chairs, Congresswoman Alma Adams and Congressman Bradley Byrne, invited the presidents, chancellors, and administrators of the 1890 Land-Grant Universities to discuss the reauthorization of the Higher Education Act and the Farm Bill.
“Today’s meeting was the first opportunity to meet with HBCU Presidents since the Republican conference last month,” said Congresswoman Adams. “The Bipartisan HBCU Caucus is committed to building on those conversations and ensuring all stakeholders remain engaged in the legislative process. It’s going to take bipartisan support to pass substantive legislation that will benefit our schools and the Caucus is dedicated to working together to lead those efforts.”
“As Congress debates the next Farm Bill, it is important we hear from our nation’s 1890 Land-Grant Universities,” said Congressman Byrne. “These universities have important perspectives on the challenges facing agriculture in our nation, and today’s conversation will help better inform members of the Caucus as we continue to move through the legislative process.”

1890 Land-Grant Universities were established by the Second Morrill Act to serve all students, especially low-income and underrepresented students. There following 19 universities are 1890 Land-Grant Universities: Alabama A&M University, Alcorn State University, Central State University, Delaware State University, Florida A&M University, Fort Valley State University, Kentucky State University, Langston University, Lincoln University in Missouri, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, Prairie View A&M University, South Carolina State University, Southern University and A&M College, Tennessee State University, Tuskegee University, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, University of Maryland eastern Shore, Virginia State University, West Virginia State University.
