Falcons Hurdler Lowers Own Top NCAA Division II Time In Event
On Friday, Saint Augustine's University's Shawn Rowe (Sr./West Palm Springs, FL) ran the world's 11th fastest time this season in the men's 400-meter hurdles championship race in the prestigious Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Pa. His time of 49.36 was the fastest by an American college hurdler in Friday's event and it bettered his NCAA Division II top outdoor time this season.
Juander Santos of Inter American University in Puerto Rico was the only hurdler to record a faster time than Rowe on Friday. Santos' time of 49.22 is the fifth fastest 400 hurdles time in the world this season.
Rowe's time comes on the heels of Friday's performance by Saint Augustine's University's Tia-Adana Belle (Sr./St. George, Barbados) in the Penn Relays. The Lady Falcons Olympian ran the 16th fastest time in the world this season (56.26) and lowered her NCAA Division II-leading time in the women's 400-meter hurdles championship race.
On Friday, Belle was part of the Lady Falcons foursome which placed seventh in the women's 4x100 college division relay race. The Lady Falcons unit, which includes Shakinah Brooks (Sr./Raleigh, NC), Leah Barker (Jr./St. Michaels, Barbados) and Iris Robinson (Jr./Birmingham, AL), crossed the finish line in 46.38.
Rowe is a member of the Falcons quartet which qualified for Saturday's men's 4x400 college final. The group of Rowe, Adrian Kimmons (Jr./Cold Water, MS), Damere Gilbert (So./Sharon Hill, PA) and Khari Herbert, Jr. (Sr./Coral Springs, FL) advanced to the finals with a time of 3:12.89.
The final day of the Penn Relays is Saturday, April 29 beginning at 9 a.m. NBC Sports Network will televise the meet from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
