Hornet Nation students will benefit from great jobs and awesome perks
Alabama State University has partnered with Apple to bring the AppleCare College Program to the University's campus.
ASU students who are tech wizards and enjoy helping others solve problems with their computers or phones may now be hired by Apple for flexible, work-from-residence hall or home jobs.
The AppleCare College Program is an Apple initiative where it hires students from around the country for flexible positions.
Jeremy Hodge, director of ASU’s Office of Career Services, said the University was first chosen from more than 100 colleges and universities from across the nation, and then made it into the "Top-33" schools. From that vantage point, the Hornet Nation was chosen to be one of the final few partners in the AppleCare College Program.
“It's time to celebrate. We have embarked upon the beginning of a potentially long-lasting relationship with Apple,” said Hodge. “This partnership is on a 12-month trial period. If we perform exceptionally well during this time, a permanent partnership will be established and Apple will basically live here (at ASU) according to the (Apple) representative," Hodge added.
WHAT’S REQUIRED
In order for an ASU student to get an AppleCare job, applicants must be a junior or senior, have at least a 3.0 GPA, a willingness to learn the ins and outs of various Apple products and high-speed Internet; and Apple will supply the computer. The application process includes an interview and a background check.
The next step in the process is posting the job opportunities, said ASU's top career staff expert.
“Apple will advertise the positions and with the assistance of the ASU Office of Career Services, begin the selection process,” Hodge said.
PERKS OF THE APPLECARE JOBS
Hodge said the AppleCare College Program is a major plus for ASU students. Once hired, students can earn good money by working part-time from their own room. Though, Apple does not advertise what it is paying the students, the company states that it will be "very rewarding."
Apple will train its new hires to troubleshoot, and let its student-workers schedule their "Apple-time" around their class schedule. The position comes with full benefits, a computer system with two monitors, and the potential to get hired full-time once the part-time term ends.
“This program will be very beneficial to our student body, as well as the University. I want to thank Dean Hingorani for his assistance in this process,” said Hodge.
