Harris-Stowe State University will honor Tihra Ann Devres, a 19-year-old HSSU student who passed away last Sunday, at a Candlelight Vigil tonight, December 1, at 5 p.m. in the Emerson Performance Center.

Tihra was in her second year at Harris-Stowe and was studying Secondary Education with an emphasis in math. She was an active member of the HSSU Math Club. Tihra also played on the HSSU Volleyball Team and was honored as an Academic All-Conference scholar athlete. She is remembered for her humility and for her passion for teaching and helping others.

At the Candlelight Vigil tonight, the HSSU Volleyball Team will present Tihra's family with her jersey and a signed volleyball. Don Kaverman, director of Athletics, and Johnny Chittakhone, head volleyball coach, will speak at the ceremony. Tihra's family, friends, professors, classmates and teammates will also share their memories and respects for Tihra.

"Tihra was very dedicated to her school, playing volleyball and to her teammates," said Johnny Chittakhone, head volleyball coach at HSSU. "She was planning on teaching math and coaching high school volleyball after graduation. She will be sorely missed."
