Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are featured prominently in a cover story in the August issue of US Airways magazine. The magazine reaches the airline’s 6.5 million domestic passengers and 3.6 million international readers.

The 48-page spread on HBCUs, which includes short articles on 30 of the nation’s 100-plus HBCUs, opens with a full-page photo from the North Carolina Central University campus, showing the statue of founder James E. Shepard and the Hoey Administration Building at twilight.

The HBCU feature was spearheaded by the National Historically Black Colleges and Universities Alumni Association (NHBCUAA), an organization composed of alumni leaders who partner with federal, state and local governments and other organizations to advocate on behalf of HBCUs and their alumni. “The exposure in US Airways provides bragging rights for HBCU students and alumni, and it also helps to market and brand these influential institutions throughout the United States and around the world,” said Ty Couey, NHBCUAA president.
