African American Female/Environmental Biology Undergraduate Majors Giving Back To Their Community

Three Environmental Biology concentration students: Brittney Fling, Riashia Bell, and Andria Mack, of Allen University - Division of Mathematics and Natural Science started their internship this fall teaching at St. Martin de Porres Elementary School located in the historic Waverly Community of Columbia S.C. . This joint partnership is in collaboration with Girl Scout STEM coordinator Ms. Meika Samuel.

According to Dr. Tomohiro Kawaguchi and Ms. Samuel “the students did excellent job engaging 4th grade girls in science activities. As their faculty, Dr. Kawaguchi stated that “He was very proud of how knowledgeable, professional and commanding the undergraduate students were in the classroom and with the school administration. Over the next couple of months the students will conduct various activities with the elementary school students on the 'Wonders of Water".
